Evaluating Telemedicine User-Experience: A CareFirst Case Study

In the Fall of 2015, SimpleVisit was selected to participate in a telemedicine pilot program by CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield; the largest non-profit insurer in the Maryland/DC Region. CareFirst had arranged pilot programs to evaluate the processes and experience of telemedicine appointments for both their providers and members.

For the next three months, each of the solutions involved would undergo evaluations including ease of use, implementation, and user experience.

The result would help better determine the benefits and challenges of rolling out telemedicine throughout their provider network.

 

The official objectives set by the stakeholders were to:

1) Establish a technical system for telemedicine;

2) Engage with participants to develop a standard workflow for supporting video visits;

3) Capture provider and member feedback on the telemedicine experience.

The following case study breaks down CareFirst’s interest in telemedicine for their members and how SimpleVisit provided a solution that far surpassed in performance than the other pilot participants.

Telemedicine as a care delivery option is here to stay.  The focus is now turned on developing standards for implementation, ease of use and quality user experience for providers and their patients.
