Santa's Using Telemedicine This Christmas

He’s making a list – but in order to check it twice, Santa got some extra help this holiday season.
Children from around America, and sometimes even other countries, come to be treated for a wide range of medical conditions at Shriners Hospitals for Children. These children are often hundreds of miles away from family and all the comforts of home. During the holiday season, that can be especially difficult, so Shriners partnered with a telemedicine company to bring families and Santa to the kids in these hospitals via live video.
On December 10th & 11th, the hospital locations that participated were decked out with all the trappings of Christmas, gift bags were prepared, and more than one hundred kids in Pennsylvania, Canada, Louisiana, and Massachusetts got to visit with Santa virtually and tell him what they wanted for Christmas.
Shriners has long been using telemedicine to reach families that do not have the means to access the world-class care that they provide. This innovative use of telehealth technology to bring joy to their patients this Christmas just showcases how telemedicine has unlimited benefits if we dare to think outside the box of tradition.
